Barcelona vs Real Madrid would be best ever Champions League final

The draw for the UEFA Champions League semifinals resulted in FC Barcelona drawing Bayern Munich, while Real Madrid square off against Italian champions Juventus. While Bayern are probably the hardest team the Blaugrana could have drawn, the Catalans still have a very good chance of making it to the final. With Madrid likely to advance against Juventus, there is a very real possibility of the first ever Clasico Champions League Final.

It goes without saying that Barcelona vs. Real Madrid is one of the biggest rivalries in sports. Clashes between these two Goliaths are always intense and entertaining. If these two teams played in a Champions League Final, it would arguably be the biggest match in sporting history, and, the winner would have eternal bragging rights.

One of the most intriguing parts of this rivalry is how it is about so much more than football. Although politics don’t play as large a role in this encounter as they did during the Franco regime, they are still a major part in this rivalry. Barca represents Catalunya and the desire to be free, while Real Madrid represent the oppressors and the country of Spain.

These two great rivals have been drawn together in Europe’s premier club competition on four occasions. Both teams have advanced twice, and three of the times the winner of this tie has gone on to win the Champions League.

While all this talk is still theoretical, with four matches to be played to determine who will be in Berlin for the final on June 6, it is impossible not to dream of a Clasico Champions League final.

The prospect of having a Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo battle at the biggest stage in European football could not be any more exciting!
