Laporta vs. Tebas is ONLY at the Center of the Negreira Case in the Media

Joan Laporta, the current president of Barcelona, is facing a battle on multiple fronts as he finds himself at the center of a corruption scandal that has engulfed the club. The scandal relates to €7m in payments made to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the former vice-president of Spain’s referees committee, and has resulted in charges of corruption being filed against former Barcelona presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Maria Bartomeu.

While Laporta has not been implicated in any wrongdoing, he has found himself under attack from both the president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, and the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez. Tebas has been particularly vocal in his criticism of Laporta, calling on him to step down as Barcelona’s president.

In a recent interview, Tebas stated, “I don’t know if Laporta has taken the right position. I feel ashamed. I can’t remember a time when such an institutional crisis took place. I feel ashamed. For now, there’s still no explanation… Not only is Barca’s reputation in jeopardy, but also the competition. Days have passed, but they still haven’t given an explanation.”

Laporta, however, has refused to back down in the face of these attacks, insisting that he will defend the club with all his might. Speaking in an Interview,

Laporta stated, “Some people motivated by envy want to destroy our reputation with bad faith campaigns. The feeling at Barcelona doesn’t get dirty, and we will defend the club with all our might. We’re a club with values. We use the word ‘values,’ not to sound good, but because they’re a fundamental part of our model of sporting excellence. I really want to face the scoundrels who’re trying to stain the club.”

Despite the fact that Laporta has not been implicated in the corruption scandal, he is facing calls to step down from Tebas, who has been an outspoken critic of Barcelona in recent years. However, Laporta has made it clear that he will not be intimidated by Tebas or anyone else who seeks to undermine Barcelona’s reputation.

In response to Tebas’s criticisms, Laporta has accused him of being motivated by envy and of trying to destroy Barcelona’s reputation with bad faith campaigns. Laporta has also accused Tebas of failing to provide an explanation for the corruption charges against Barcelona and of being more concerned with his own agenda than with the good of the sport.

It remains to be seen how this battle between Laporta and his detractors will play out. However, one thing is clear: Laporta is determined to defend Barcelona’s reputation and to uphold the club’s values, no matter what challenges he may face along the way.
