Following Xavi’s comments about the pitch conditions affecting the game against Getafe, the Barcelona manager has faced criticism and trolling from fans and rival fans alike. Despite Xavi’s acknowledgement that the grass was not an excuse for their poor performance, some have taken issue with his comments about the pitch affecting the spectacle.

Xavi’s statements have drawn comparisons to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who has also made similar comments about pitch conditions in the past. However, some have argued that Xavi’s comments were unjustified, given that both teams played on the same pitch and that Barcelona failed to capitalize on their chances.
Here is what Xavi said, “Yesterday we already trained with a dry pitch in Barcelona, it hurt us, it’s bad for the spectacle and also for Getafe because on a couple of [Getafe player] Munir’s counters he didn’t even shoot the ball…. The grass is no excuse because we haven’t played well. We have to improve our feelings and play ahead of the final stretch, [because] nothing has been decided in the league yet”.
Despite the criticism, Xavi has remained resolute in his belief that Barcelona must improve their performance in the final stretch of the season. With nine games left to play, Barcelona’s lead at the top of the table has slipped to 11 points, and their upcoming game against Atletico Madrid could prove crucial in their bid to secure the La Liga title.
